Console Systems II

Continuing on from my previous post on consoles. One of the major “advantages” of consoles is being able to play with other friends. However, almost all PC games can support split screen and multiple controllers they just don’t because the console market dominates that. Game manufacturer’s could include split screen and multiple input on PC games with only minor tweaks. For example, the last Unreal Tournament supported this. This is another example of them trying to restrict use to consoles because of the profitability bonuses it gives them at the expense of the consumer.

Console Systems

Lately I’ve seen a lot of people arguing over which console system is the best. Why is it that these people are blind to the truth that all consoles are bad for gamers? What they offer is a way for companies to ensure you’re paying for their games by making them hard to pirate, a way to market new products to you, and a way to bleed you for monthly service charges, etc. There’s really nothing good about them for consumers.

TF2 Hats/Misc – MMORPG?

It looks like Valve has added hats and miscellaneous items to the game that you can equip your character with. Although these don’t have any stats yet I’m curious if they’ll try to make TF2 more like an MMORPG where you can progress or somehow earn items with stats to upgrade various classes.

This would be hard to pull off though considering the original marketing of the game which doesn’t appeal much to MMO fans. A small amount of it might be bearable though if the items were easy to unlock in terms of time commitment. I sure hope they don’t keep a random drop system though with stat items.

Next GTA?

I’ve been wondering a lot where the next GTA will go in terms of new content. They’ve almost come full circle now having gone kind of crazy in their past titles with jet packs, tanks, etc and then bringing it back to basics with GTA IV. I’ve kind of suspected that they might have just been getting a workable engine and game creation system down for the new title and now they’ll be releasing spin off titles with the ridiculous new vehicles, weapons, etc like they did before. Time will tell I guess.

God of War 3

Just came across an awesome preview of God of War 3. This game looks like it’s going to be even more gory and violent than the other two combined which is always a plus as far as I’m concerned. The epic scale has been maintained with gigantic monsters, huge levels, etc. It will definitely live up to the title’s reputation. However, I’m not sure how fresh or new the game will feel as a lot of it looked like the same game with better graphics. Hopefully this isn’t the case and I just missed some stuff.

Wii Trauma Center

Recently got the new Trauma Center game for the Wii and I have to say I’m quite impressed. This is basically the first Wii game that I’ve seen really take advantage of the controller setup. Other games have seemed more gimmicky than revolutionary when it came to integration of the controls with their game. Somehow this game also seems to have more precision with the controls which other games lack. I highly recommend it and give it a 9/10 and it would score higher if they had stuck to more of the realistic scenarios instead of throwing so many made up illnesses in that required minigames that unimerse you from the gameplay.
